Context

Boon AI is a California company building an AI platform specifically for the construction industry. Before a bid, estimators measure quantities by hand from plan sets: counting fixtures and measuring lengths and areas across dozens of sheets, then pricing it all in separate estimating tools.

Problem

Manual takeoff is slow and error-prone, and it caps how many bids a team can submit.

Approach

  1. Agents where the team already works

AI agents for construction teams, delivered through Slack, with automated provisioning, scheduled and event-triggered skills, and a visual workflow builder.

  2. Automated quantity takeoff

Takeoff across construction trades, with an interactive takeoff canvas where estimators review and correct every result.

  3. Estimating on top of takeoff

A cost estimation platform built on the takeoff, with importers for existing estimating tools and cost comparison.

  4. Training data for the models

A blueprint annotation platform and a synthetic data pipeline for the computer-vision takeoff models.

  5. Billing

Usage-based LLM billing and subscription plans, integrated with Stripe.

Outcome

I own these products end to end across engineering and product management, lead project teams and run technical interviews.

What I learned

  • Agents become trustworthy in production when their tools are narrow and every step can be checked.
